CHILDREN’S CONTRIBUTION TO THEIR SCHOOL COMMUNITY
We encourage children to be active members of their school community and they can do this in a number of ways. For example children are monitors in their own classrooms, in their corridor areas or in the hall. Children are also invited to join a variety of school teams:
The School Council; this team is elected each year from children in Years 2 to 6, with one boy and one girls elected from each class (20 children). Children can only be a school councillor once in their time at school. The School Council meets regularly to discuss issues such as play equipment, new staff appointments and behaviour.
The Healthy Eating Team: this team is made up of volunteers from across the school (about 25 children), who discuss ways to raise awareness about nutrition and to give advice on food in school e.g. packed lunches
The Eco Team: this team is made up of volunteers from Years 4 and 5 (about 12 children), and they monitor the energy use in school and think of new ways the school can be more sustainable
The Bike It Crew: this is a team of volunteers (about six children) who support the school’s activities as a Bike It! school.
