Year 2 Mrs Harris

Welcome to Year 2. Literacy and Numeracy usually take place in the mornings. Afternoons are devoted to a much broader and diverse curriculum; Science and ICT lessons are taught alongside History, Geography, PE, Art, DT, PHSE, Music, French and Religious Education. Most of these subjects are taught in blocks and children are asked to bring in things on a Monday morning to support the teaching and learning of the current topic.

Children have indoor PE sessions on a Tuesday afternoon and an outside games session on a Thursday afternoon.

If we have been really good all week we are rewarded with Golden Time. This is our favourite time of the week as we can choose to play in the Home Corner, with the Train Track or make models with the lego.

In June we are lucky enough to go on a school visit to the seaside. We visit Clevedon Pier, Clevedon Beach and the museum at Weston.

In art we looked at some of the work of a famous artist called Van Gogh. In particular we looked at a painting of some sunflowers. We used this painting to inspire our own artwork of flowers where we used paint to create the background and pastels to draw the flowers. Have a look at the photos; we think we might be as famous as Van Gogh himself one day!

ICT WEEK: We had a fantastic week making our own animations; We planned our own group stories, made the characters, backdrops and then filmed each scene taking on the roles of cameraman producer and animator. We also put speech into a class power point on our history workshop on the Great Fire Of London. We used text boxes to describe fairy tale characters and bee bots (small robots which we could programme). To finish the week we were able to videoconference with another year 2 class from Bristol, sharing ideas on the Gingerbread man story which we had both been working on.  The week was a complete success with everybody having a brilliant time and learning lots of new things, children and teachers alike.

DRAMA WORKSHOP: This was an exciting morning spent bringing events from the Great fire Of London to life.  Children acted out various stages of the day the fire started, and learnt several rhymes from the time .
