Handy hints for Year 6 SATS Revision Tips
Life skills by the children in Year 6
On Monday 1st of March, Year 6 went on a trip to Life skills in Clifton. F6 went in the morning and came back for lunch, while M6 went in the afternoon and came back about 3:30pm.
When we got there, we were split into ten groups of three. Each group had their own guide to show them around the fourth floor of the create centre.
There were ten different sections. The sections were number 5 Green Cross Road (which included the fire, the bathroom and the bedroom), the train track, the country lane, the shop, the garage, the dark alleyway, the park, the pond, the house (which included the living room, the kitchen, the hallway and the garden) and the building site which included the substation.
The ten different groups each started in different sections. The fire section was really freaky because no one expected it to happen. The dark alleyway was also really freaky because they’d recorded someone acting out that they were being stabbed with a knife.
They also taught the top five safety tips. They are:
- Remember all drugs are medicines but not all medicines are drugs.
- Only call 999 in a REAL emergency.
- Check for hazards, they could be life threatening.
- Remember D.R.A.B. D is for danger. R is for response. A is for airways. B is for breathing.
- Never go down a dark alleyway even if it’s a short cut, they could be dangerous.
Over all, the experience of life skills was very realistic and had a big impact on all of the year 6’s lives.
Themed Maths – Lunar Theme Park
In term 3 year 6 undertook some themed maths. We started designing our lunar theme parks. The first thing we did on our project was to work out what we could buy out of the list we’d been given. We had to spend as close as possible to our target £500,000. That was enough to buy 10 major rides at £50,000. After that we did a rough design of the layout of our theme park, with different buildings and rides taking up different amounts of squares on the paper eg 9 squares for a major ride. Then, when we were happy with our design we could copy it on to a piece of paper which would go up on our display board. We then were given homework to come up an advertising poster. This would also go up on our display beside our theme park design. The final stages were to work our revenue and how much it would cost to run the park each day over the 30 days. This would give us our profit. We all really enjoyed it and think themed maths is a great idea.
