Festive Fayre – 29th November 2008
An extremely successful event which was once again very well supported by the local community. A special thank you has already gone to our resident “special guest” who had more visitors to his grotto than in any year previously. The stalls and games once again proved very popular and successful as did the log making and craft activities along with a very successful raffle. We were once again very fortunate with the Mufti-day donations – our resident tombola experts – highlighted that this was the largest donation of bottles we had ever received. The introduction of the BBQ was also very well received by visitors to the Fayre and an excellent new idea for this event.
In summary – thank you to everyone who made this event possible and on the back of which we made approximately £2000 – a truly fantastic effort.
School Calendars
A new innovation for this year and one which seems to have gone down really well. Firstly thank you to everyone involved with getting the pictures drawn – no easy feat. Also a big thank you to everyone involved in the preparatory work in preparing the template for printing. A special thanks to KD for liaising with the printers who did a fantastic job in the timeframe we were working to. We sold almost 300 calendars with was an excellent achievement for a first attempt.- we stall have a few left over if anyone would like one.
Christmas Disco – 12th December
Another very popular evening – although perhaps a little dampened by the weather. A new DJ this year, who proved to be extremely energetic and enthusiastic. After the discussion at the last meeting is was great to see the number of people on the look out for bargains on the “selection box front” – we obtained a great deal from Sainsbury’s in the end. Also a big thank you to the hardy BBQ’ers who braved the cold and wet to lay on the refreshments for being to eat on the way home. Thank you to everyone for your help in making this another great night.
Christmas Parties – December 2008
If all the findraising wasn’t enough we rounded off the year with providing and preparing food for the three parties.
Approx 400 children were catered for, with a plate of party food including sandwiches, cakes, crisps and carrots for KS1 and years 3 &4 whilst years 5& 6 opted for Buffet style, each child also received a gift . All 3 parties went smoothly with minimal amounts of waste and positive feed back received from staff on the variety and quality of food.
Thank you to everyone who organised all of the above and the parents who helped with food preparation and serving on the days. Thanks have also been passed on to our top secret Santa.
Auction of Promises – October 2008
This was what can only be described as a fantastic evening and there are not enough times I can thank everyone for their support. To all the companies and organisations that so kindly donated items, opportunities and services and to all the parents and friends who also contributed a significant number of promises – there would have been no evening without all your support. On the evening a big thank you goes to everyone who helped set up, run the presentation, staffed the bar, cashiering and providing an excellent ploughmans supper and finally to our fantastic and generous host compare for the evening – and a good friend to the school, Gareth Chillcott, who certainly made the night both memorable and successful. As a result the children now have over 1000 new books to help them learn to and enjoy reading
Nearly New Sale – September 2008
Our fourth sale was again blessed with fine weather. As previously we had a sell out in terms of sellers and we had a queue awaiting the doors to open at midday. There was as always a huge variety of quality items and everyone once again had a successful day in terms of both selling and buying. Once again another big thank you to everyone who supported what is a much eagerly awaited event.
Nearly New Sale – April 2008
The bottom car park was full of buggies and garden toys by the time the gates opened at midday. Along with a huge amount of baby/children’s clothes alongside a mountain of games/books and jigsaws provided a veritable cavern of opportunity to purchase quality used items. The match attax cards proved very popular and hopefully enabled most of the hardened collectors to complete their respective collections.
Easter Family Disco – March 2008
This provided another opportunity to boogie the night away. With another chance for families to enjoy the fun and cordial atmosphere an excellent night was had by all and each child was given an easter egg as a parting gift – a big thank you to Asda for their kind donation
June 23rd 2007 was the date of our annual Summer Fayre.
As usual the day itself was a culmination of many months of preparation aimed at putting on a fun packed day for everyone.
Leading up to the Fayre we held a competition for the pupils to design the cover for this years Summer Fayre programme – which is very well supported ( and very much appreciated) by the local businesses within the area. Having sifted through the large number of entries received – a difficult decision ensued on how to pick a winner – eventually an entry from a Year 5 pupil was selected.
A mufti day was held a couple of weeks before the Fayre whereby pupils could have a non-uniform day by way of making a “gift donation” to go on the tombola stall.
The day before the Fayre we were asked to donate cakes for the cake stall – either bought or homemade.
With the summer having been very wet and any form of sunshine at a premium, we were naturally disappointed to be setting up with a fine drizzle in the air. However to our surprise and delight at around 11.30 the clouds parted and the sun shone brightly for the rest of the day.
The Fayre was opened by the 37th Kingswood Drum & Bugle Corp and was followed by a performance by KS2 pupils who performed to an African piece of music.
The stalls were many and varied, tombolas, white Elephant, Books & Videos along with well stocked plant and cake stalls. For the more active visitors their was a Ferris wheel along with a variety of inflatable and bouncy castle activities. This was supplemented by the ever popular crockery smashing, coconut shy, beat the goalie, splat the rat and our unique “Wall and orange games”. If that wasn’t enough there was an opportunity to ride the unrideable horse, show off skittle skills or even indulge in a pig race or two. If refreshments were required Strawberries & Cream, Hot Dogs and succulent burgers were available along with an opportunity to rest one’s legs whilst enjoying a much sought after cuppa or two. The playground was also home to a local Fire Engine and Police Cars during the day – an ever popular attraction for the children.
Finally with all stalls all but exhausted of supplies the day drew to an end with the Grand Prize Draw winners being announced and In car DVD’s, DVD player, DAB Radio’s and a host of other prizes were presented to the lucky winners. After tidying up we all went home and started planning for the 28th June 2008!
The Quality Nearly New Sale -
Saturday 27th April 2007
From a nervous start came a great day. The sale takings came to almost £4000.00.
The hall was full to bursting with an amazing range of nursery equipment and children’s toys; the side car park was chokka with every type of pushchair you could imagine.
The doors opened and a tide of people came in. New mums, Grandparents, nurseries, child minders and families.
We sold 8 double pushchairs from £10 up to £60.
Ride on toys, push along, swings and slides even a Little Tyke play slide system.
The puzzles, videos and games where stacked so high it was hard to see over the top but very few where left at the end.
A large number of kitchens and workbenches made there way to the door and off to new homes.
From nursery, highchairs, booster seats, cot beds, baths and Moses baskets even a wooden swinging crib and changing table went off to family and grandparents homes.
Not forgetting the small items rattles, any type of building brick, trains and dolls.
That’s just the small amount I can remember selling.
In short if your loft is bursting or your garage needs a spring clean we could help each other.
Fill your wallet/purse and help Longwell Green School at the same time.
Next Sale 6th October
FESTIVE FAYRE - 25th November 2006
Saturday 25th November our school was transformed in to a Christmas wonderland for our annual Festive Fayre. Although this has been the first Festive Fayre in two years due to the new building work and the extension to our school hall. All visitors were greeted with a smile and had an opportunity to browse our school hall at the wonderful collection of stalls and games. For adults you could have a look at the collection of trade and craft stalls. You could wrap up warm with a fluffy scarf or brighten up your home with a festive plant. While the children could race singing snowmen or hook a parcel from “Santa’s Express” and there was always a selection of tombolla stalls to have a go on. There were a variety of activities for all ages and best of all for younger children there was the magical Santa’s Grotto. While you waited you could watch cartoons and then you would go into see Santa and come out with a present. You could get crafty at our Elves Workshop making angels, Christmas trees and crackers and our now ever popular Yule Logs. Everyone was able to sit back and relax with a nice cup of tea or coffee with a piece of delicious home made cake in our refreshments area.
