ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
We enrich the curriculum by offering a range of additional activities that help to stimulate, excite and motivate children. These activities help with children‟s learning and development. We offer day visits to sites of educational interest, such as the Roman Baths and STEAM world in Swindon. We take children on short residential trips in Years 5 and 6. We have many visitors leading workshops on anything from Lego to anti-bullying.
Sporting Activity with Hanham High School
Earlier this term Year 1 and Year 3 children enjoyed a visit from Hanham High School. For Year 1 the students organised and led a PE circuit for the classes to complete. The children participated in a range of activities that were led superbly by the pupils at Hanham High.
“They were so funny, I thought it was such fun!” Lewis F1
“My favourite was the bean bag game, it kept falling off every time I jumped”
“I was very tired at the end!”
“We scored 38 in the ball game, we kept hitting the ball out of the hoop” Millie F1
We thought the leaders from Hanham High School were excellent. They gave clear instructions for the children to follow and everyone in F1 and L1 enjoyed the circuit. The children were all fully engaged in the activities and displayed some excel-lent skills during the session.
Year 3 children took part in a Speed Stacking activity with Phil during the afternoon. They had to use their speed and hand eye coordination skills to try and beat their time when stacking the cups.
The children described the afternoon as ‘super’ and ‘fantastic’ and explained how they had to try really hard to use their speed at the same time as concentration.

Police Visit to School
The children in Year 1 were visited by the Police yesterday. They enjoyed finding out about their uniform, their job and most importantly the police car!
The Police Officers were talking about stranger danger and what the children should do if they met a stranger. The children listened attentively and thought carefully about the messages from the session. Both classes went outside into the car park to look at the police car. They watched the flashing lights and put their fingers in their ears when the sirens were turned on.
F1 were fortunate to send a message on the police radio!
“We spoke to another police officer on the radio, she said hello Year 1!”
“The police car was really big, they used it to save people from the flood. They had to climb through the window”

CBBC “Trade your Way”
Children in KS2, and especially years 4 and 5, had a fantastic day on Wednesday when we were visited by the „Trade your Way‟ road-show team, and Siara Khan the presenter of „Trade your Way‟ on CBBC. Years 4 and 5 were provided with workshops through the day helping them to think about how they could start up their own businesses. These
included generating ideas, creating logos and jingles, negotiating deals and working as a team to make a product.
In the afternoon, Saira led an assembly and she noted the talent of several of the children and told them about how she became successful as a business-woman and as a presenter. It was inspirational! The CBBC website has links to "Trade your Way‟, and we have already been mentioned! http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/diaries/sairas-diary |
