Year 6 Cook up a treat

Following everybody’s incredible hard work in the run up to SATs and through SATs week itself we thought the children deserved to do something a little different. The whole school target aimed at becoming healthier offered the chance to do just that.  We made our Year 6 target ‘To create a collection of healthy eating recipes and share them with our friends and teachers.’
The children were asked to go home and talk to Mums, Dads, Grans and Granddads and consult recipe books to find a healthy recipe they could prepare and share.

Once again the children rose to the challenge.  They came back into school full of ideas and enthusiasm for the task.  They rewrote their recipes into a common format. Wednesday evening was spent slicing, chopping, cooking, blending and perfecting their chosen recipes with some children even passing up the chance to watch the Champions League final to cook!
As the children came into school on the Thursday morning they were all buzzing with excitement at what they all achieved.
The hall was transformed into a café and the children were placed into groups of four.  Each child then offered their dish to the others in their group and all of them tasted and evaluated each others efforts.

The range of food produced was amazing.  From smoothies to soup, healthy cakes to falafels and fruit cocktails, the range of food was impressive. Everybody was very impressed with the effort the children had made.  The quality of the food they produced was amazing.  All of the children enjoyed tasting each others food as did Miss Dean, Mr Fry and Mr Leggatt.  The SMSAs also had the chance to sample the food on offer and were equally complementary.
Well done to Year 6 for their outstanding efforts.
