Year 6 Trip to Life Skills Centre
Once again our Year 6 children were fortunate enough to visit the Lifeskills centre to learn valuable skills and improve their knowledge of how to stay safe. Lifeskills consists of a series of sets designed to replicate real life situations the children may find themselves in. These range from a supermarket to a living room and a park to a railway line.
At the centre, children in groups of three were led around the sets by a volunteer. Each setting provides an opportunity to learn important skills and gain new knowledge about a wide range of issues. These include what to do in the case of finding a fire, checking sell by dates, learning about how long a car would take to stop and how to stay safe when out and about.
The children absolutely loved the visit and the follow up work back at school showed the children had learned a wide variety of new things.
Lifeskills gives us the opportunity to help the children prepare for life outside Longwell Green in a way that wouldn’t be as effective in the classroom.
