‘Treasure Island’, featuring year 6 children in the acting roles and the other children in KS2 formed the chorus. ‘Brilliant performance’ was one comment that was made; and certainly the confidence and talent was clear for all to see. All the children are to be commended. In addition I would like to thank the staff team in staging the performances, and a special mention must go to Mrs Cardy for being the inspiration be-hind the production.

Road Safety show for Year 6
Year 6 were visited by a fantastic theatre group called Walking Forward. Walking Forward produced a brilliant show called ‘The Price’ all about road safety, which would have helped children who are going to a new school this year and especially those that are planning on walking.
This outstanding performance has made our year 6 pupils think twice about what they are doing and not to follow the crowd in doing something dangerous. This experience I thought was a great way of delivering the message in a fun but serious way. I’m sure that everyone agrees that this was a worthwhile and moving performance that will stay with us forever. Thank you to South Gloucestershire Road Safety Unit who funded the visit. Emily F6

Freedom Theatre
A few years ago the school commissioned a new play from The Freedom Theatre company, and on Friday 24th April the whole school was fortunate to have a free performance of the play, entitled ‘Broken’. This was a very professional presentation, which skilfully covered the difficult area of family break up. Following the performance the juniors had an additional workshop which allowed them to ask questions to the characters in the play. This was an excellent experience for the children.

South Gloucestershire Road Show
On Wednesday 29th April Years 3, 4 and 5 were visited by a Road Show, which reinforced safe road side behaviour. This presentation was provided to us free of charge, and we are grateful to South Gloucestershire Council for making it available.

Maths Curriculum evening
We had a very successful evening on Tuesday 28th April, when school staff gave presentations about maths teaching in school.  Thank you to the parents who joined us, and thanks also for the feedback about future curriculum evenings.

Morris Dancing
On Thursday the 23rd of April to celebrate St George’s Day, members of Somerset Morris dancers came to our school and showed KS2 three different types of dances.  They were joined by the children who attend our Morris Dancing club.  It was a great assembly. They were all wearing great costumes and worked very well as a team.  We all loved it.

After break year six got the opportunity to learn a dance with the Morris Dancers. We were split into seven groups of eight or nine. It was quite difficult at first but eventually we got the hang of it. When we put the whole thing together it was really great. We were really fortunate because the weather was really sunny. We hope we could do it again. Matthew and Amy F6

Year 4 Ukulele Lesson

We have been enjoying learning to play the ukulele as a whole class with Mr Davis. Every Tuesday afternoon each class has a whole lesson especially for learning songs and music to play on the class set of ukuleles. Ukuleles, or ukes as Mr Davis calls them, are string instruments with four strings, made famous by the likes of George Formby. F4 and R4 have a growing repertoire of songs and music and have also worked on developing rhythm and keeping together. Some children have accompanied the class on their guitars, and one or two have played Mr Davis’ double bass, even though it is twice the height of the average Year 4 child!

Year 5 Eco Lego Village

All the children in year 5 spent a morning designing and making models for an eco lego village. It was great fun – our models included houses, stables, a sports stadium and windmills. We added solar panels and wind turbines to many of our constructions.
