Year 3 Visit to Roman Baths
On Tuesday this week Year Three went to the Roman Baths. We had a great time seeing and experiencing all the things we had been learning about. The hot spring where offerings were made to the Goddess Sulis Minerva and the Great Bath where Romans bathed in the healing waters 2000 years ago.

In the education centre we all dressed up as Romans in tunics, stollas and togas. We made our own mosaics and handled real Roman artefacts. We could really imagine what it was like to be a Roman.

Year 6 Visit to Lifeskills
Last Friday, both Year 6 classes visited the Lifeskills Centre in Brislington; the aim of this visit is to give children the opportunity to experience situations that may arise in real life and learn how to deal with unexpected events.

Our Visit To Life Skills
On Friday I visited life skills in Bristol. I was learning how to deal with emergencies that might happen in real life.
When we got there we had to wait half an hour before we got met by our guide. After we had been met we went in a massive lift which reminded me of the tardis. Then we went to the fourth floor to get told what we were doing.
We went to many very good activities but the alleyway was the best. First we walked into a dark alley-way filled with graffiti. Suddenly, we heard a woman shrieking that she was being attacked by someone with a knife! Then we had to find a phone and ring 999.

After the alleyway I went to the train area and we discovered there was a rock on the track. I had to go onto the track in a reflective jacket to get the rock off. As soon as I got onto the track I heard a train and I saw the train lights in a tunnel. It was really scary and so realistic.

Then I went to the final area, DRAB. D stands for danger, R stands for response, A stands for airway and B stands for breathing. It was a very interesting thing to learn and could come in useful some time. I think life skills is a very valuable experience for all children. Also it is a very enjoyable and all of the areas were very realistic.

Our Trip to Life Skills
On Friday, 6th January, our class (B6) went to life skills in the Create Centre in Bristol. We went to learn a bunch of skills all about safety. When we arrived, we were introduced to the Centre and put in to groups of 3 or 4. Then we started our activities…

My group first went to a shop (it looked really realistic). I got the shopping list and we had to buy different things; some things we couldn’t get. Then our guide who pretended to be the shopkeeper short changed us. I noticed that our guide had cheated us because I was looking at the cash machine screen. He was meant to give us £2.50p but he gave us £1.20p.
We thought it couldn’t get any weirder, but it did, in the house… In the house it was really nice it was like a real home. We were going through all the rooms and finding the hazards. We were at the last room and Kieran (one person in my group), opened the door and… fire suddenly poured out of the door and it was very cool and very scary at the same time. I jumped on the floor and crawled out the door. Then Parice (another person in my group) called the fire service and a teacher would answer the phone pretending to be a person from emergency services it was really great but scary as well.

It got even worse when we got to a train track and everything around us was dark. We were all stood watching our guide show us how nothing can stop a train. Then was a rock and log on the track and then when you weren’t expecting it a loud noise and lights came on and it was scary. In our group we didn’t go on the track but quite a lot of groups did.

The most exiting but terrible activity was drawing in. We came across an alleyway and someone had a knife and was trying to stab a girl. The alleyway was very dark and was covered in graffiti. The lady shouting was asking us to help her but we couldn’t get ourselves in to danger so we rang the police and they told us not to go near the problem. Right at the end of the alley way there were some manikins and a pretend man who was holding a knife trying to stab and mug the girl.
Today was a mind-blowing experience for us to learn about how to react to different problems. I think I know what to do in any situation. I thought it was amazing and I’d like to go again.
