Longwell Green Primary School ‘outstanding’
There were celebrations all round at Longwell Green Primary School this week after a recent Ofsted inspection named it outstanding in all areas.
Following lead inspector Lorna Brackstone’s visit to the school she said ‘this is an outstanding school where pupils are exceptionally well prepared for future life both academically and socially’.
The school in Ellacombe Road provides pupils with an excellent education where extremely high standards of work are attained in all areas. This is down to excellent teaching and lessons that are presented in an interesting way, the report said.
Parents also find it ‘a truly wonderful school’ and the headteacher’s leadership was recognised by his ‘exceptional professional commitment [which] has resulted in a forward thinking school where reflection and innovation are the norm’.
Achievement is outstanding because teaching and learning are exceptional. Pupils are taught by excellent teaching staff who involve them in their learning. Standards are extremely high with pupils not only performing exceptionally well in English and Mathematics but across all subject areas.
The quality and provision in the Foundation Stage are excellent … the children are taught extremely well and enjoy a curriculum that fully meets their needs.
The school’s proud international links also came in for praise ‘the outstanding links enjoyed with a local university and schools across the world enhance all aspects of the school community’.
Extremely well-informed governors make an outstanding contribution and pupils develop into very sensible and mature young people.
Headteacher Andy Leggatt said: “Longwell Green is a brilliant school with fantastic staff. Everyone works together and believes that the best interests of children should always be foremost. I am very proud that Ofsted has recognised the outstanding quality of education provided here.”
Elaine Skidmore, chair of governors, added: “This Ofsted report is outstanding in every area which gives Longwell Green Primary School the status of being amongst the best primary schools in the country. Our headteacher has created a school which exemplifies all that is best in primary education. Our pupils deserve and receive the best education it is possible to provide.”
