Curriculum Intent

The ethos of our curriculum

We aim to teach every child value themselves and their uniquenessvalue others for this also and to know that they can make a difference in the world, and this flows through all we do.   See the Vision and Values page for more information.

Each subject has a carefully crafted progression through school, and all curriculum areas are planned to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum and to provide an exciting, engaging, and developmental education that children want to get fully involved with.

We use key concepts for learning in all subject areas across the school, deepening and strengthening the learning by revisiting these concepts throughout your child’s time in Longwell Green.

To support an ethos of success and challenge, in developing lifelong learning skills as well as learning facts, we have developed smaller learning milestones linked to age and stage where children can feel that success and know they are achieving, these also help to ensure that learning is increasingly challenging as your child moves through school.

In addition to this there are three core subjects:

English (which includes phonics), Maths and Science, we have foundation subjects which include: Art, Computing, Design Technology, Geography, History, Languages, Music, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) Physical Education and Religious Education (RE). Relationships and Sex Education is mainly taught as part of the PSHE curriculum.
