Term 6 News Update

Dear parents and carers,

It has certainly been a very odd time for us all for so many different reasons.  We hope that you have continued to make the most of the weather (which has been so very kind to us, imagine if it had rained the entire time!), and for some, we know you will have started to prepare for a return to school and we know for some parents, a return to your workplaces.

Thank you again for sharing with us all of the great things you have been up to, I know the staff have been responding to you all and have enjoyed keeping in contact.

At Longwell Green, we are moving into a different phase.  As you know, we have not closed for parents of keyworkers.  All staff (except those isolating for medical reasons) have been working in school and from home to keep the keyworker pupils learning and the work for home learning as well as responding to all of the messages, amongst many other things.  We now welcome back pupils from years Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.  For details of what this will look like, please see the main page under announcements.

To achieve this, all available staff are now in front of a class each day, which means that their ability to respond to you will be reduced.  For many staff, they will be teaching in year groups that they were not teaching in before the lockdown (all staff have been used to teaching those 3x year groups).  They will be working hard to ensure the best education for these pupils new to them and who are in new class-groups and classrooms, as well as quickly building relationships with pupils they may not know, and for some these will be the youngest pupils in school.

This does not mean that they will forget you, their original classes if you are home learning.  Staff will continue to provide outstanding work as you will see below, and will strive to continue to communicate with you all, just perhaps not as frequently or as swiftly.

There are numbers of pupils from the returning year groups that for a variety of reasons are not returning on the 1st June.  For these pupils, the home learning on the website will aim to replicate in some ways, the programmes of study and the types of learning that will be happening in school, so that everyone has a similar learning experience.

With Term 6 work, as we did before, we have created activities that don’t need printing where possible and have tried again to give a variation in areas of learning, in types of skills and to keep it fresh and interesting.

We anticipate the first few days back to be quite ‘full on’ as everyone starts to settle into the new normal, but we do continue to stress that if you need us in any way, please contact school in the usual ways and we will do all we can to help.

We really can’t wait for things to return to normal and we can’t wait to welcome you all back.  Please do continue to stay in contact, and we send our best wishes to all of you from everyone at Longwell Green.

From the Road Safety Team

I am sure when you are out and about on your daily walk, bike ride or scooter ride you are discovering parts of your neighbourhood that you didn’t know before and perhaps different routes to get you around. This can be a great opportunity to consider the way you travel, in particular the way we get to and from school, with air quality better than it’s been in some time and roads quieter, perhaps use this as an opportunity to form new habits and pledge to walk, ride or scoot to school once our schools reopen, you can even have a few practise runs.

The resources are listed in year group feel free to select the appropriate resources for your child’s age.
