Design and Technology makes the world go round! At Longwell Green Primary we believe in supporting children in developing skills and building hopes and dreams in contributing to it. We ignite passions and strive to facilitate the capacity for inventive, innovative and analytical minds. Pupils at Longwell Green enjoy DT projects and value it as an essential part of their curriculum.

Pupils at Longwell Green have said:

“DT is important to expand your knowledge of what you want to do when you’re older and picking a passion.”

I love to play Lego but my structures always fall down but I’ve learned how to put stilts in the right places.”

It links to OPAL because you can think of ideas and projects in class and experiment with them outside.

“I’ve become better at evaluating because we’re learning how to improve our explanations and answer what the question is asking us to solve.”

At Longwell Green, the Design and Technology curriculum combines skills, knowledge, concepts and values to enable children to tackle real life problems. It improves critical analysis, problem solving, and practical capability and evaluation skills. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other subject areas such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art, thereby enabling pupils to notice connections and patterns in their learning.

The pupils of Longwell Green will explore food technology in every year group, progressing through preparation of fruit and vegetables, healthy and varied diets and finally celebrating culture and seasonality. Pupils are taught how to safely prepare food using a range of utensils and consider the feedback from consumers to evaluate and amend recipes.

The power of Design and Technology holds high profile at Longwell green and through excellent opportunities we endeavour to produce future engineers, inventors and culinary masters.
