Our Ethos
A warm welcome to Longwell Green Primary School. Longwell Green Primary is a vibrant and engaging school where all who attend and work here are proud to be part of our school, and proud to be part of our extended Longwell Green family. Longwell Green Primary is a welcoming and happy place to learn and grow, and each of us makes it this way – children, families and staff.
We believe we are preparing children for their future lives while helping them to appreciate, recognise and value the unique place they hold in their own lives and the lives of those they touch and how this can be used to promote mutual improvement and valuing of all. We achieve this through reaching for the highest standards and ensuring we provide a wide range of enriching experiences, all of which are underpinned by these, our vision and values.
At Longwell Green Primary School we strive to enable each child to make real contributions to their own life and the life of those around them, in part in preparation for living fulfilling and impactful lives as they grow. We want our children to develop kindness, excitement, interest and curiosity. We want them to be reflective and aware, to ask big questions and to endeavour to improve the circumstances of others. We recognise that each child is an individual and we value the achievements of all, and support others through the teaching of explicit skills to do the same.

Our School Vision
“Inspiring Learning.”
At Longwell Green Primary School, our vision is for every child:
- to value themselves and others for their uniqueness and
- to know that everyone can make a positive difference in the world.
We aim to teach every child to be ready with the skills, knowledge and resilience to find their own success in the world.
We aim to teach every child to respect their own and others’ individuality through understanding our diverse and multicultural world.
We aim to teach every child to show care to themselves, community and the world around them through being inclusive and embodying our school values every day.
Our Core Values
Through all we do, with our values, with our PSHE curriculum, with everything from English to PE, Art to how pupils are at playtime, we aim to teach every child value themselves and their uniqueness, value others for this also and to know that they can make a difference in the world, and this flows through all we do.
We use the 18 values above as golden threads that run through the curriculum as well as explicitly teaching these values through assemblies as a Whole School, Key Stage and Class, allowing the ideas to be approached as a team with the older pupils acting as role models to the younger pupils and in more detail within each class to discuss specifics pertinent to specific classes and ages. Behaviour
Our behaviour policy puts these 18 values at its centre and is designed to enable all members of the school to live and work together with the common purpose of helping everyone. It supports the whole school community and enables an environment in which we all feel safe, secure and valued.
Our whole school approach to behaviour is primarily concerned with the promotion of good relationships and the development of positive actions. We believe that this is part of how we have developed an ethos of kindness and cooperation where every member of the school feels valued, respected and treated fairly.
Our three rules are that underpin all behaviour in school are:
- Ready
- Respect
- Care
Everyone is expected to follow these rules and we all work together to make Longwell Green the school we want it to be. It takes each person to do their own best, thinking of others and being respectful, to make the school the positive school it is. As an example, all adults in school model positive behaviour to the children in order to teach them our expectations regarding behaviour and to show mutual respect. We recognise positive behaviours in children and praise this in many ways: from a simple ‘thank you’ or ‘well done’, rewards such as certificates, ‘star of the week’ and other awards. This recognition is celebrated as a whole school and is also shared with parents.
The children are also grouped into four houses (named by a pupil as Griffin, Dragon, Pegasus and Dragon) where pupils can gain house points for going above and beyond in work or in actions. For more information, see here:
