Wellbeing in School

At Longwell Green, we work tirelessly to maintain a school of engaged and happy children and wellbeing forms part of our approach.  We combine implicit and explicit work that permeates our curriculum and your child’s time in school and is supported by other overarching work such as our school and rules, school values, OPAL and more.

Here is an overview of some of the explicit events held in school last year to aid pupil wellbeing:

Anti-bullying Week

As a school we looked at our similarities and differences and came together on ‘Odd Socks Day’ to celebrate our different talents and strengths. Throughout the week we looked at how to identify bullying and what to do if we were ever to come across bullying in our lives.

Wellbeing Week

During Wellbeing Week we looked at the 5 pillars of mental health and identified how we could ensure that they are included in our school week. The children gave ideas of how this could happen and we worked in classes to ensure our timetables included these ideas.

Children’s Mental Health Week

We took part in the national Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme was ‘Growing Together’ and the children discussed how their friends, families and members of the community helped them grow. The children referred back to the 5 pillars of mental health to consolidate their learning and during PSHE time the children discussed the importance of ensuring that they were still practising these.

Clubs

A number of clubs were run by staff members which promoted the 5 pillars of mental health and the children were able to take part in these after school or at lunch time. These included construction, yoga and mindfulness clubs.
