Music
At Longwell Green, we believe that music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. Our music curriculum enables children to achieve mastery in music by understanding musical concepts through a variety of practical and exploratory musical activities. Over time, children develop both their new music skills and concepts as well as revisiting established skills and concepts. Mastery means both a deeper understanding of musical skills and concepts as well as the learning of new ones.
Using the online resource Charanga, children are provided with lots of visual and interactive resources to support their musical learning. Throughout their musical journey, children will develop their skills of listening and appraising through a range of musical styles and genres. They will improve their skills of singing, playing, improvising, composing and performing using a range of tuned and untuned instruments. Finally, they will increase their knowledge and understanding of the dimensions of music, musical terms and musical notation.
