Geography

Longwell Green School teachers deliver a high-quality geography education that inspires pupils with a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Teaching equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

In EYFS children focus on their local community, begin map work and also start the explore the natural world around them thus inspiring the sense of a ‘wider world’ that they are a part of. Key stage 1 has a focus on more detailed map work, learning about weather changes, comparisons of places in the world and being able to locate countries, capital cities, and also exploring more of the features of our local area. Children learn the different continents of the world and use a range of different maps, globes and technology to show how different and amazing our world is.

Key stage 2 children delve deeper into the geography of the natural world and explore the movement of tectonic plates, climate change, formation of volcanoes the impact of earthquakes. Children research and compare different areas of the world directly comparing population, economy and climate zones. Field work is an important part of children learning to collect data, create data and analyse findings. The geography curriculum at Longwell Green provides pupils with a modern view of the local, national and international part they play in our wonderful world.
